We offer a range of services from simple maintenance and repair to full reconditioning. If you would like to do the work yourself, we will be glad to train you and provide the parts and pieces you will need to do a proper job. We offer our steam chamber for stripping your sash in our shop. Our goal is to have your windows and doors operate smoothly, seal tightly and look great.
In addition, we offer options in laminated glass for your consideration. Research will show this option will cut both street noise and ultraviolet radiation intrusion dramatically. To maximize the value of reconditioning your windows, we offer reconditioning of your storm windows as well. Time works relentlessly on old buildings — head flashing over windows wears out, sills tilt backwards, bricks lose mortar, and so on. Often previous repairs were not expertly done, leading to rot and premature deterioration of glazing and paint. We will perform the necessary repairs or advise you of the solutions available for dealing with these problems. We intend for your windows and doors to last into the next century.
Window and door reconditioning
It is entirely possible your wooden windows are in need of only the maintenance of sash cords, track, dust bumpers and seals along with a fitting that will make them operate smoothly and seal tightly. If your windows do not have track, and additionally they are in need of painting and re-glazing here is a list of typical operations performed:
- Sash removal and covering opening with plywood, or securing existing storms.
- Steam chamber stripping of all old paint and glazing.
- Removal and possible reconditioning of hardware.
- Two part epoxy repairs to sash, replacement of rotted wood, prepare for new seals.
- Two coats primer, sanding between coats.
- Bed glass into sash with silicone sealant, glaze with traditional linseed oil glazing.
- More coats primer, then two coats of paint.
- Reinstall sash with new track, parting bead, seals at sill and meeting rails, and new sash cord.
- Recondition and clean storm window.
Wooden doors often require only minor repairs to their bottoms, proper waterproofing, and replacement of silicone or 'hook' type seals at the threshold to give a tight fit. If new weather-strip along the sides and top are necessary, we have a variety of products to select from. If a door has been broken, we generally have great success in making repairs in our shop.
Metal Interlocking Weather-stripping
The US Dept. of Energy rates metal interlocking weather-stripping as having an "Exceptional weather seal" compared to all other methods and materials for your home (see pdf). We use the finest quality weather-stripping manufactured by Accurate Metal Weather-strip Company. We've seen Accurate Weather-strip still operating smoothly more than 60 years after installation. We are expert in applying this material.
These tight sealing weather tracks are hidden out of sight behind rebuilt, original sashes.

Chemical Free Stripping
We use steam stripping for window restoration, a safer way to work with lead-based paints and asbestos filled glazings. We can strip your sash for you, or instruct you in how to use this new technology.
