Door Restoration

If you are fortunate to have your homes original wooden door, we may be able to restore it to its original condition.   Although the door may have suffered abuse, we have had great success in restoring appearance and function.    We do expert repairs to wooden doors and their frames, using high grade methods of carpentry.   We replace damaged panels, rails, and glass; and may be able to repair the damage done to original locksets, handsets, mail slots and knockers.

Door Weather Stripping

With new mortise-in lock bodies prices at starting in the several hundreds of dollars, we often find real value in re-working existing lock bodies and equipping them with new or reconditioned handsets.  We have the help of Willis-Klein in servicing old locksets and providing missing parts and hardware. Restoring the appearance of original glass is part of our normal process.   Beveled, leaded or pattern glass is often available and can be refit for an original appearance.   Likewise stained glass panels can be fit into original glass openings. If your door is a source of drafts, we are expert in spring (or tension) bronze and interlocking metal (described as most durable form of weather strip and rated excellent by the US Dept of Energy).   http://www.energy.gov/energysaver/articles/weatherstripping    These materials, usually in solid bronze, include the variety of water bar thresholds which are the best protection from wind driven rain. Even mail slots can be sealed to prevent drafts.

As an economy seal, our shop made surface applied silicon bulb seal with its milled wooden carriage may be painted or stained to fit your needs.   We make this in long lengths so the entire perimeter of your door will have an unbroken weather seal.
